Should my Mother give up her home to
Foreclosure? My Mothers home is literally falling apart, She has 2 mortgages on the home and its not worth 1/3 of the total of those 2 mortgages. She had a contractor look at the home and they said that with the shape it is in she just needs to tear it down and build a new one but there is NO possible way she can do that. She doesn't have the credit or the money to do so. I proposed that she should just give up the home and find a rental, she would be paying less a month and the home would be so much better then this one. Right now with the 2 mortgages she is paying 800$ a month not including utilities. In the area we live we can find a home bigger and better in every way then ours for under 600$ a month. Plus because of the condition of the house, to sell it, you could really only sell the land because the house is not worth anything. She CAN afford the payments on the house, but she can't afford to repair it, its literally falling in around us and the only option is to give it up. Or if some miracle happened and Extreme Makeover Home Edition could do something about it...lol. So I really want to get opinions and some real information on what I can look at and where I can go to get more information for my mother about this! Also, I wanted to add that my mother is on Social Security VA benefits (its her only source of income) and also receives a check for her son (my brother of course) for disability benefits as he is mentally handicapped. Because these checks ARE guaranteed Can they still garnish THOSE wages?
