Default My landlord rented me a home that was in...

...pre-foreclosure without letting me know.? When I came home to a lock box, he finally told us that he was having problems but the bank was allowing him to sell it. He told us we could live rent free until the home was sold. We agreed and showed the home whenever a potential buyer wanted to look. We also started looking for a new home. About 6 months into the process the landlord asked us if we had found anything and we told him we were looking into some homes. He told us not to he had an offer for us. He told us that he was going to keep the home and rent it to us for a greatly reduced rate. We didn't hear from him for about 5 months but in the meantime, the realtor told us there was a contract on the home. We finally did hear from the landlord who told us the contract had fallen through and that the bank was allowing him to keep the property. He wanted us to sign a new lease and also reimburse him for the HOA dues which he said he had fallen behind on about two years worth but had brought it up to date. He said since we lived there without paying rent we should do that. Let me just say that right after we found out about the pre foreclosure, we offered to start paying the HOA dues but the landlord never delivered the payment book and told us that if we contacted the HOA he would get in trouble. He also wanted us to put the electric bill in his name so that the bank would think this was his primary residence. We agreed to the lease as long as the lock box came off the door. However before the lease was to begin on June 1st, we found out that the home was still under contract and that he had never paid the HOA dues at all. When he came to collect rent, he did not provide us with a copy of the lease, the lock box was still on the door so we refused to pay rent. Also on the day the lease was to begin, the bank was granted a final judgement of foreclosure. My question is two things: Would the lease be voided due to a contract being on the home and how long would I have to live here.
