Well that is what I don't get.I paid $300K for my house 3 years ago. It took me 4 years to save up the $60K down payment. I sacrificed a lot. No big screen TV's, no vacations, no cell phone, etc.Now my house is worth $250K. So I would have been better off if I took out a mortgage for 100% of the value of the house because they would be writing off the $50K in lost value because the house would be worth less than i would owe on the mortgage.Or I should have bought a bigger, more expensive house I knew I couldn't afford on an interest only or variable rate mortgage and stopped making payments on it so the government could have bailed me out.Or I should have blown the $60K down payment on cars, vacations, big screen TV's, etc. Here's one more thing. Are any of these people who can't make their mortgage payments sacrificing anything? Define poor in today's world.#Eighty percent of poor households have air conditioning. By contrast, in 1970, only 36 percent of the entire U.S. population enjoyed air conditioning.# Nearly three-quarters of poor households own a car; 31 percent own two or more cars.# Ninety-seven percent of poor households have a color television; over half own two or more color televisions.# Seventy-eight percent have a VCR or DVD player; 62 percent have cable or satellite TV reception.# Eighty-nine percent own microwave ovens, more than half have a stereo, and more than a third have an automatic dishwasher.

I'm starting to think that us responsible people are the fools. I'm saving for retirement, buy only what I can afford, etc., and we keep getting stiffed to pay for the irresponsible people. I save heavily for my retirement, but most likely in 25 years or so they'll be denying me Social Security because I did save, to give it to some "poor soul" who probably outearned me throughtout their life but blew it all on a lavish lifestyle and saved nothing. Maybe we should all go into debt up to our eyeballs, enjoy life, and let the government save us too?

Angela thinks you are a racist because its been commonly presented as a poor, black problem. That way white America won't get so upset, they can think its not happening to them. Of course we know better, as we continue to see houses suddenly empty and the grass growing in the yard and we can see that its happening to everyone, black, white and blue.I'm in your situation, I pay my bills I'm not getting a cent out of this bailout, no kids, no school bills, no child care credits. At first I was miffed too, but then I realized no amount of money the government can send would make up for the frantic worry I would have if our income stopped or the bank raised our interest to double what it was now, or the nights I'd spend up worrying about how to survive. There are quite a few rules about who gets help, you have to have shown a consistent record of payment for one, and that alone is going to rule out a lot of people. In the meantime, keeping people in their homes is going to keep up the neighborhood, as they will mow lawns and not provide empty houses for druggies and so keep up home values for other families in the area.Otherwise the housing market would be flooded and your home loses value.
