Is my wife liable for my rental foreclosure?
My wife and I got married last November, and at the time I was living at my duplex, renting out one side and living in the other. Since then I've moved in with her and have rented out the other side as well. I was getting market value for the one side until the tenant stopped paying (that's a whole different story), the other side I'm renting out at below market rates, considering we're talking about Oakland County, Michigan. I lost my job within the last year and we've struggled to make both of our mortgages...she works for her father's company and is secure from a job perspective. She is however worried that the mortgage holder will hold her liable also, not just me, if this leads to foreclosure...which we're attempting to stop at all costs. So the question is who's liable for the mortgage on my duplex, it's in my name and only my name...she has nothing to do with it, besides being married to me...any help would be much appreciated.Respectfully,The Dummy
