Make sure you know the state of your finances before contacting your lender. Determine how much income you made each month, how much you pay the bill and how you can reduce costs. Ask a consulting service nonprofit to help you make this financial analysis for free. The counselor will also help negotiate with your lender. Consumer Credit Counseling is a good place to start.
