The Orange County Sheriffs economic-crime unit is quoted as saying that they use Photoshop software to alter bank statements to hide the missing money from Stewart Title. They are alleged to have used the money to run other businesses such as a restaurant, real estate company and a magazine publisher.
Detective William Cruz from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office is quoted as saying “The escrow funds are being held in trusts by the title company for legal disbursements. So, rather than disbursing the monies where they’re supposed to go, they were utilizing the money to run other businesses.”
