Default Florida roofing contractor arrested over fraudulent 2nd mortgages

In the following To view links in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. Your post count is 0 momentarily. the Florida Agriculture and Consumer Services Commissioner Charles H. Bronson announced today the arrest of a Pinellas County man for allegedly saddling seven homeowners with second mortgages for roof repairs his company performed for the homeowners.
The defendant - Peter E. Wozniak, 69, of Largo – was charged with 7 counts of false or fraudulent acknowledgements by a notary public. The charges stem from Wozniak asking the victims to sign an installment payment contract for the roof repairs and then notarizing the signatures and allegedly using them without the homeowners’ knowledge to file second mortgages with the Hillsborough County Clerk’s Office in the name of Home Improvement Services, the business for which he worked.
He was booked into the Pinellas County Jail on $14,000 bail.
According to Bronson’s Office of Agricultural Law Enforcement (OALE), which investigated the case, the arrest follows a three-year investigation which began with a referral to Bronson’s office by the State Attorney’s office in Tampa involving the business practices of Home Improvement Services. The company was involved in the business of installing new roofs on existing homes.
OALE investigators have identified at least 7 victims but suspect that there may be additional cases in which second mortgages were taken out on homes on which the company installed new roofs. Therefore, Bronson is asking anyone with information on the investigation or who believes that they have been victimized by the company to contact his Office of Agricultural Law Enforcement at 1 800 342-5869.
