Default About post foreclosure on a mortgage?

I was a co-signer on a mortgage that has since been foreclosed and the property has been sold. I need a copy of the surrender of property paperwork for my own records, however after calling the lender they refused to send me a copy of the pertaining paperwork can they legally do that?
