Default Loan Modification to foreclosure status... What?

We have had a good payment history since 1999. Our payments were high, but we were still able to make payment despite our current situation. We recently applied for a loan modification in january and were advised to miss a few payments so that it would look better on paper (to show a struggle). I fear it was bad advice because now we are in Foreclosure status. We have not received any letter stating this but, we were told by the lawyers handling our case. We were told that if we get a letter with a sale date or anything from our lender to fax it in to the company and they will put it on hold so that we can finish our loan modification. Should I be worried? I don't want to panic or stress due to being pregnant, but I'm just worried to be homeless with a newborn. I was also told that when you are doing a loan modification, everything goes on hold. What's the deal?I guess, I need to explain a little further. I no longer have my job to do being laid off and my husbands hours were cut from his job as well. Our parents were helping us make the mortgage by loaning us half of the payments for a few months. until we heard about loan modifications.

I worked for a loan mod company and what they are saying is true. Despite being in the loan modification process, until it is completed, the lender will continue to follow the protocol. I didn't see any of the clients go into foreclosure even though they received the notice. You may want to ask for a three way call with the processor representing you, to have the lender representative, the loan mod co. processor, and yourself on the line so you are in the loop of what is happening. That is what they did at our company.
