Has anyone hired a law firm to help with mortgage...
...loan modification? We have fallen behind in our mortgage payments, but wish to stay in our home. We were contacted by a law firm (after I filled out some information online) stating that they could help to modify our loan as basically the middle man (between us & the mortgage company). Of course, there is a fee involved. The whole thing sounds legit (I've checked credentials with bar association, etc) and have talked with a customer currently using them (but not completely finished). With all the negative things you hear about the scams & how the modifications never go through ... just wondering if anyone had actually successfully attained a loan modification & if so, how they did it & did they use a law firm. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.I realize that you can do a modification on your own, but our fear is that we will miss something that maybe an attorney or someone with more experience will catch. We are terribly close to foreclosure proceedings & feel completely overwhelmed with the whole thing. We want to take care of our obligations & stay in our home (we have been here 9 years, and for 3 of our children, this is the only home they've ever known). We are afraid to call the lender, because we don't want to "draw attention" to ourselves & make things speed up quickly, to where they are booting us out of here before we have had a chance to set things straight. Any advice???
