Default Landlord didn't pay the mortgage. Should I pay him

rent? Alright so my landlord didn't pay the mortgage on the house I am renting and now it's going into foreclosure in Sept. Since he didn't pay the mortgage, I highly doubt he will have my security deposit to give back. Should I just not pay September's rent to "make sure" I get my security deposit back or is that a bad idea?Forgot to mention that we have lived there 3 years and the past 2 years we have not been under a lease. Not by our choice, the landlord said there was no need. Plus, I have paid my rent on time every single month for 3 years. I dont know if this has any bearing on what I should do, but I thought I should include it.

You have an agreement, if you have been open with him/her you should be able to ask that question. Will I get my security deposit, if so pay if not do not. Legally he/she can not collect rent if they are not paying the mortgage.

If you have no lease agreement and the house sells you will be evicted.

If you have a lease agreement you will be protected even if the house sells until your agreement is over.

on TV I've seen several nightmare situations where the new buyer has been deceived about the lease agreement and begins eviction proceedings anyway. It's a terrible situation. Basically, as soon as you see that the current owner is getting into trouble with their lender, I would begin to look for a new place to rent.
