Default 2 Yrs @ Same Company Required for Mortgage?

My FH & I are shopping around for a larger house, the one that we're currently in (which he owns) is just *too* small! He's been at the same job for 8 years and makes decent money. I just graduated with my B.S., however, and don't have 2+ years working for the same company. Will the banks consider only his income or our combined income? Just curious so I can narrow down my search! (He was pre-qual'd on his own few years ago so I've currently been going off of that number for the "max" range).I figure if its just his income used as a determinant then we can make a few sacrifices up-front in terms of amenities and consider mine a "bonus" and use it towards new appliances/fixing up/adding on/etc. in the future.
