It might take years for the price of my
home to recover, how can I get rid of my house and mortgage?

you could default on the mortgage and lose whatever equity you have. then, you'd have to find another place to live, but your credit would be fried so no one would want to give you a mortgage or rent to you. or, you could continue to live there and make the payments every month.
