Default should my next mortgage payment be principal only?

I usually pay 500-1000 extra on my mortgage each month. As a result, today (Jan 20) my Mortgage shows next payment due April 1 $1500 (lets say). I have $2000 to put toward my Mortgage now.1) Does it matter if I say it is a regular payment vs. saying it is interest only? 2) Does the regular payment option hurt me by prepaying escrow? 2) If I DO put it in as a regular payment, does it save me 11 days interest somehow if I do that today vs. at the end of the month?
