Default my boyfriend mum share a house, the mortgage

is in her name. He just found out that she took a loan on hous? He is deaf and now is wondering if the house is even under his name as she was the interpreter. I told him i thought she would not be able to get a loan on the house if it was under both their names....wouldn't he have to sign for it too?He doesn't know if he is contractual owner...He was told by his mom that they both owned it. But when i asked him where he signed it and what the document looked like, he said he signed it at his house then gave it to his mom......I told him that he would have needed a lawyer to witness him signing. My mother shared her house with my sister, my sister lives in japan....My sister had to go to an International lawyer, sign in front of him, then he signed he had witnessed, then they sent the documents to canada....So if they had to go through that much hassle for joint ownership it makes me believe she screwed him. But let's say they did own it equally, wouldn't he have to sign for the loan as well?
