Default Unemployed but IRS asking for 1040 filing ?

Mortgage interest reported ? is that a credit ? i was unemployed and living off savings to pay for my mortgage in 2007.i didn't file a 1040 my mortgage interest was reported the irs has now contacted me with a cp 59 letter asking for a 1040im planning to just write 'unemployed'but i notice it says:d. if you already sent a payment , o r a credit was applied to the above tax period ending, complete this section:[ refund the credit balance] (you must file a tax return to get a refund of your credit even though you may not be required to file)does that apply to the mortgage interest ?i dont know the amount that was reported paid for 2007what should i do ?i had zero zip income.i had been a homemaker for a quite a whilegot a mortgage for the first time ever in 2007 (used proceeds form sale of condo that had been bought with savings from grandmother pain and suffering med mal suit)i think its very simple.the irs computer's were triggered by the fairly large mortgage interest report.
