Default Home mortgage modification, help please?

My dad is looking to modify our mortgage for a lower rate. We are not experience in any way about this topic. He went to a of people (i'm guessing they're the private government assistants?), and they all estimated a lower rate (about 200 off, at least this is what my dad is telling me), and they want 3000 to perform this. Well my dad is not sure if he wants to do this or not. He's talking about moving and things i just up and down.My question is, have any of you been through the mortgage modification? How was it for you? Maybe this will help us make our decision. We live in New Jersey if that matters at all.Thank you guys. I'm happy I asked this question. So glad he wasn't quick to give them this money.

I have family members that fell for this scam. They do not modify the mortgage. They charge thousands and do absolutely nothing.NOTHING.A bank has strict regulations to modify your mortgage if you qualify. No upfront cost - none.Your daddy is falling for that famous old scam. Surprised it's still around. And more shocked that your dad does not know about it.-----For your own future. NEVER deal with anyone that calls you or sends you mail.If you ever need anything done, find someone yourself. That family member thought they could stop paying their mortgage. They eventually realized the scam. They now live in a little trailer that was donated by other family.Living freezing winters up north in a trailer the size of a garage.
