Why did my bank and mortgage holder refer my credit
card application to credit card agencies? I applied for a credit card at the Bank of America. The Bank had a good deal on balance transfers whereby they would take transfers from another credit card, charge no fee, and charge zero interest for a year. That looked great, especially since having a credit card at their bank would make it easy to use their online services. The latter is no joke, as their computer system is not compatible with the Safari browser, that I nearly always use. Firefox works, but I hate that browser. After waiting on the phone for twenty to thirty minutes I finally talked to the clerk taking applications. He asked me so many questions about my finances that I now regret giving him the answers. The end of conversation was an abrupt “YOU ARE DENIED!” Maybe he watches Suzi Orman on Saturday nights and adopted the answer.Well, so be it. I guess they gave the guy the rules and he filled out a form, added up the score and denied my application. Then I asked if he would be able to NOT report the application to the credit agencies because the mere asking for the account would lower my credit score.“No,” he said. “I have to report it.” My question to all is WHY? Isn’t this something that is up to the discretion of the company receiving the credit card application? Why would they want to hurt the credit score of a customer, or anyone who might possible become a customer?
