Default Should a mortgage broker charge to "clean up" my

credit report? We are using a broker for a mortgage on a home we are buying. We have always had very good credit scores, but my husband mislaid 2 bills - 1 for $30 and another for a new credit card annual fee of $75 and that brought down his score by 100 points! This broker claimed he could still get us a good rate, and gave us a Good Faith Estimate with only normal charges: Now that we are 1 day from closing, the origination fee has increased by $2700 and he says that was "the additional fees are the credit scoring .... it costs money but saved you over three points.. you had a 660 credit score and we got it to a 760. Nothing I can do on that." This does not sound right to me. What do you think? I would welcome an honest mortgage broker's information.

No, it doesn't sound right. First off your score for a mortgage is not necessarily the same score for credit. Most places around the nation use similar programs and they all remove certain items from your credit for Mortgage purposes only. It is all part of what we do as mortgage brokers to issue you get the loan, as we do not get paid if you do not get the loan.Anyway, it has been few years since I was a Mortgage loan officer. Also, he would have to have disclosed this amount to you before hand.Sounds like he is just trying to squeeze money out of you. However, that said, he did move you from the subprime market to the prime market, which I am sure you are aware of will save you in the long run.But to restate, you would have signed something about their origination fee and he can not just change that because he "feel" like or thinks he "deserves" it. It should be exactly what you agreed to. Do not be afraid to stand up to him because as bad as you want the house, he wants the money from closing the mortgage deal.Best of Luck,JD Sports Online.
