...reenlisted after acquiring our mortgage? We have overseas orders and a mortgage here in the states. We enlisted BEFORE buying this house. Our bank informed us that we must have acquired the loan BEFORE enlisting to be eligible for 1 year protection from foreclosure under the ServiceMembers Civil Relief Act. But would we qualify since he reenlisted after we acquired the loan? I'm sending in a copy of our orders to the bank anyway.. but I'd like to get a heads up... so that i can feel better about this whole mess. Does anyone know about this?Hmm... Well, I'm not looking for a handout. I was trying to get a little more time to sell my house. My house has been on the market for a good deal of time. We had hoped to have an offer.. But it just isn't happening. But if there was a way to keep a foreclosure off my credit of course I'd look into that.

Re-enlisting and enlisting are two different things. The SMCRA is for those who are going in under their FIRST enlistment. There are plenty of active duty folk in your situation. You have two choices.... sell or rent it out for the mortgage amount. It's not unusual and is getting more and more common. As a service member, you know there is a chance that you will not stay at your base for the duration. Buying a home is always a risk. You knew the risk, you bought the house, and then you re-upped. Sorry... you don't get your handheld.
