Can my exboyfriend sue me for mortgage payments?
My exboyfriend and I broke up. When we bought the home three years ago, the mortgage was in his name only and the title in both of our names. We both were paying towards the mortgage for the past three years. We broke up in January 2010 and he wanted me and my kids moved out of the house. He asked me in February to move out so I could save money and not have to pay on February's mortgage payment (he requested through email). I found an apt and moved out in March. He then asked me to quit claim deed the home over to him and he told me through email that the home is no longer my concern. The quit claim deed recorded March 4, 2010. He since then hasn't been able to sell the house, quit his job, and moved out of the home into an apartment, so the house sits there empty and for sale. He has recently told me that I owe him for the mortgage payments as it sits there empty. I assume he is in financial turmoil. Can he sue me? I'm not on the mortgage and I quit claimed the house to him March 4, 2010. We live in Alaska, which is not a combined property state...
