mortgage on a house, how?

Me and my husband live on an army barracks. We want to buy our own house near family for when hubby comes out of army and we move off the barracks. How would we go about getting a mortgage on a house we don't live in?Any help would be great or any websites.....Its in England...United Kingdom. Thanks xMost info = best answer
