There has to be a reason for the banks to modify the loan. If you can afford your current payment - we will not modify it because you signed the documents and are not experiencing a hardship. If this is the case your only option is going to be to refiance the loan.If you're in a hardship situation, meaning your income is less, your in a deficit status or close to breaking even, then you should call your servicer and explain the situation - be prepared to go over your monthly income and expenses, be prepared to prove financially your hardship (via bank statements and check stubs). Your credit will be pulled an anything reporting to the credit agencies will be taken into account.If you meet the investor guidelines and requirements for a loan modification .. you'll be assigned to an analyst, your account reviewed and presented if all is well.. and then you have to wait for investor approval or official declination. But again, if you can afford your mortgage without issues (ex: You make 100K per year, your mortgage payment is $900 and your living expenses are $1000 - you have a large surplus and there is no reason to modify your loan) the banks will not modify the loan. Like Obama has hinted too - the help isn't going to be for people who don't need it, but it's for the people that do.
