Default I noted "final payment" on my last check to my

lien holder. Never got a mortgage satisfaction letter.? What now? I'ts been a few years and the guy might even have died. Any suggestions?

I would contact the local Lions Club in the town he lives in. They should be able to help you with this.

It's your responsibility to request the pay off letter from the lien holder with in 30 days of the cleared final payment. They wont just send it to you even though this makes the most sense.

mortgage companies don't send many satisfaction letters these days. that is usually something that your title or escrow company can help you with. in utah we just plan a standard $35 fee for the title company to send in a special request that basically says if we don't receive a reply then the mortgage has been satisfied. since they provide the title insurance they guarantee that you won't have anything to worry about. so you can pay a title company to use their special form or you can try to work through all the paperwork and hoops of the mortgage company and do it yourself.
