overseas, to get a mortgage from a US bank? I am thinking about building a house in the Caribbean and I am looking into mortgages. I am not a US citizen, don't work in the US, don't have any ties to the US (other than that I visit fairly often). I wondered if I can get a mortgage from a US bank WITH a US citizen as my co-signer. Do you know if that's possible? I have family members who are US citizens who would be willing to co-sign for me.

Not very likely, as they are being very cautious and turning down people who have better credentials than you do, and these are people who do live in the country and are citizens of the U-S.Before the banking crisis, they were greedy and looked the other way...back then, you probably could have gotten a loan based upon a paper application with no verification, even if you wore a space suit, had two heads and NO citizenship on the planet! Sad, but true!
