Shop around for mortgage broker?
My husband and I are planning on selling our condo soon, we have met with one broker but I have been in contact with two others that want to meet with us. Is it bad to shop around on a mortgage broker? The brokers are just doing a preliminary analysis on our situation with a copy of my credit report and my score, once they each tell me how much they can pre-approve us for I will allow them to pull my actual report and go through with the pre-approval. I feel guilty doing this because I don't like to waste anyone's time but I think it's a good idea to shop around for the best rate and approval amount, do you/did you?I should mention too that I am in Ottawa, Canada. So I am not worried about foreclosures near my area fortunately. We have picked our real estate agent already based on sales facts and good recommendations. We are shopping for a broker so that we can know 1) how much each will be able to make available for a loan 2) the rate they will offer. Once we have the best offer we will go with them and get a preapproval and then put our house on the market. Another question we are wondering is, is it better to sell first and then shop for a home or shop while it is on the market?
