Depends on your state & county. It can take anywhere from 3 or 4 months up to 2 years before the Sheriff will come kick you out.If you are interested in selling your house and getting out without having a foreclosure on your credit, call a Realtor. But not just any Realtor. If you are in the state of Ohio, I can point you to a couple really good ones that I used to work with (not a Realtor anymore, but still have some great connections). If you are not in Ohio, let me know what state and I'll try to help.

Yikes! Your home is your most important asset. Try to make repayment arrangements with your mortgage company, many are willing to work with their customers in these difficult times. If you foreclose on your home you will have to find another place to live anyway. How are you going to do that when your credit rating has plummeted? No landlord checking your credit rating, AND THEY WILL, will consider renting to you because you didn't pay for your housing previously. You are one forclosure away from being homeless. Please try to work things out with your mortgage lender.

Depends on your state and county. Georgia is among the most aggressive. Washington, DC, and Massachusetts give you more time. Search the HUD.gov website for help.If you are so far behind that you know it is inevitable that you will lose your home, then stop making payments and hoard your cash to put down a hefty deposit on an apartment. If there is a chance you could catch up with your mortgage, then call the lender and ask for forebearance.
