you required to go with that lender? Basically, I'm just asking if you are obligated to go with the company that pre-approves you. Any other suggestions on mortgages are welcome also. I am a first time home buyer and education never hurts. All I know is that I'm looking for a 30-year fixed with no points.

You are not obligated to work with any lender whether they have prequalified you or not. At some point you need to make a choice and your decision shouldn't always be based on the lowest quote. Make sure you are comparing apples to apples, and make sure you are working with someone who will walk you through the entire process and explain everything to you in detail. Please also remember that the people you are dealing with do this for a living (let them know if you are shopping around).
