"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder." Same goes for any service provider, the one that is a good fit for your friend may not be the best fit for you.

Suggest you take a drive through local neighborhoods in your area, look for real estate agent signs, many will have "sold" marked across them (agents leave the signs up until closing).

Stop and talk to the owners to see what their experience was, how the agent handled the sale, etc. Good agents work the same areas, price the property correctly and sell the house. People refer friends (good and bad agents). Sellers will tell you what you need to know.

One last word, if you want to sell in the California market, you have to be realistic with your price expectations. Even the best agent can't move an over-priced property.

Good luck.
